Community-Led Housing

What is Community-led housing?

Community-led housing is when community groups come together to build and renovate new housing that meets their needs, not for the profit of a private developer. It ensures that there is open and meaningful participation with the local community and that local people consent to the housing that is being created.

There are four main types of community-led housing:

Community
land trusts

Co-operative
housing

Cohousing

Self-help
housing

Cheshire Community Action hosts the single local arm of the national Community-led Housing movement in Cheshire and provides the first point of contact for community-led housing queries across the region via its local support hub, Cheshire Community Homes.

Your local support hub, has been set up to help communities, local authorities, housing associations and a range of housing development professionals to work together on community-led housing schemes in the Cheshire and Warrington area.
