Discover the latest on the Cheshire West and Chester Council-funded small grant scheme, with grants of up to £500 available per application. This funding initiative is aimed at local communities and organisations where a small grant can make a big difference.

ABOUT COMMUNITY CHEST GRANTS

The main goal is to cover at least one of the three criteria:

• Promoting well-being
• Supporting carers
• Fostering physical health improvements among residents

To date, we have had 16 successful applications. There are some funds remaining, so more
applications are welcomed. Please e-mail Adele Rylance at enquiries@cheshireaction.org.uk
for an application form. Applications are dealt with on a rolling basis.

Below are details of some of the successful applicants:

THE MEMORY CAFE

This support group is based in Frodsham and supports Dementia patients and their carers.
Once a week they hold a cafe which acts as a local source of support, to prevent carer
burnout and compassion fatigue.

Having visited The Memory Café, we could see how beneficial it is to the people who attend.
This includes current carers, people who are no longer caring for loved ones and also
individuals affected by dementia. It had a lovely atmosphere and community spirit. The
Community Chest Grant will enable the group to continue opening The Memory Cafe on a
weekly basis. You can read a case study about the Memory Cafe here.

STANNEY GRANGE COMMUNITY CENTRE

Before applying for the Community Chest Grant, Stanney Grange Community Centre was
already offering cookery classes to adults. The Community Chest Grant application was to
help the centre run additional cookery classes for children and young people. These classes
are a way of educating the attendees, both young and old, on the importance of healthy
eating and meal preparation.

STAR (SHARE, TALK AND REMEMBER) BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT

This group was set up in October 2023 with the aim of supporting bereaved individuals
in navigating through their grief. Due to demand being higher than expected, it was felt a second
support group was needed. The Community Chest Grant was applied for to help fund
another session in the evenings as not everybody who needs this support is available during
the daytime. This support is rated by participants as invaluable.

CYCLING WITHOUT AGE

This is a Chester-based charity with 3 specially adapted, electrically assisted trishaws based
in Upton Dene, Blacon and Hoole. They take elderly people, who often feel isolated and lonely, out for free bike rides in the community. The aim is to expand the fleet of trishaws in Chester so this fabulous initiative is more widely available.

Please email any Community Chest enquiries to enquiries@cheshireaction.org.uk.
